Camping at Dillon's Beach

What a great weekend! We revived an old family tradition and spent the weekend camping at Dillon's Beach. Driving in it seemed that we had entered a Burning-Man-at-the-beach scenario but we found a great spot at land's end on the bay. We practically had a private beach. Molly was thrilled to be with family...particularly cousin Ella.

Molly had her first boat ride in PopPop's boat with Mommy, Auntie Linda, Auntie JayJay and Ella.

And played in the sand dunes with Ella...

All was great, except when Molly fell in the ocean. That was a bit traumatic but Uncle Adam rescued her and Mommy cleaned her up and put on dry clothes. Then everything was all better.

All in all, a pretty great trip!

Quote of the day

"We don't eat bumble bees. We eat crabs."
~Molly

Mommy note: This quote is particularly funny to me as it was out of the blue. She was looking out the screen door but I'm not sure if she saw a bee or not. And she's only had crab once at Phil's Market two weeks ago. Who knows! What must go through that beautiful brain of hers on a regular basis!?

The Uterus, Brains, and Boys

Today Molly wanted to see her brains. I explained to her that her brains were in her head where they needed to remain for their protection. She asked me how she got brains. Naturally, I replied, "Mommy gave them to you." My cleverness quickly trumped with her response, "when I was in your uterus?"

"Yes," I explained "when you were growing in my uterus." We then went on to discuss how girls have uteruses. "Not boys." she confirmed. "No, not boys. Only girls have uteruses." And with her amazing not-quite-two-year-old deductive logic she replied "and boys don't have brains."

...of course I explained that boys do have brains (and refrained from any expansion on this).

'the roast beef one"

Molly hurt her toe today. I asked her which toe, and through her tears, she replied "the roast beef one."

This little piggy went to the market
This little piggy stayed home
This little piggy had roast beef
This little piggy had none
This little piggy went wee wee wee
all the way home

Potty! Potty! Molly went potty!

Molly went potty on the 'potty' tonight!! I can hardly believe it. After months of 'potty-talk' and her books and films she went on the potty. We haven't been pushing the issue, but she was interested so we went with it. She sees us go, but hasn't been interested in sitting on her potty with anything less than fully clothed. She loves her video and the Everyone Poops book from Aunti Me but I wasn't sure (or too concerned) when she would actually go. I figured we were in for many trials and errors and probably some coercing (although I haven't ruled this out). Then tonight, she said she wanted privacy and went into the bathroom. Didn't think anything of it...until she called us in to see her work. Too cool.

Of course, as I write this blog, I realize that I am actually one of those moms who is totally thrilled with the potty-in-the-potty situation! How, when, did that happen? Oh...right now I just don't care. My daughter went potty in the potty!

Tea Party

My girlfriends with little girls warned me about Tea Parties. Not quite two and we are now in full swing tea party mode...
