What's my name?

Molly now calls me Megan more than mom...I'm actually kind of glad. I feel like it is her way of helping me maintain my own identity. But I could be reading too much into it.

The Potty Chronicles

We had some good success in Mexico. Molly even proclaimed "I pottied in Mexico. I'm potty trained!" After our talk with Dr. O who told us not to worry too much about it and even to back off because of potential damage to the bladder (it fills, she holds, it stretches...not good) we sort of let the whole potty thing go. I told her one day that it was her choice. If she was wearing undies then she could ask me for the potty or a diaper, either way. But not to 'hold it.' She asked for a diaper a few times and I thought it was all over. But in Mexico she peed in the potty. We had one fairly traumatic accident in a restaurant involving a forgotten swim diaper, a lot of paper towels, a teasing cousin, and lots of crying. But it didn't seem to phase her after the fact. Once back at the condo, to the toliet she returned.

At home, all day yesterday she used the potty. No big deal. And this morning she went in to the bathroom to wash her hands after breakfast and on her own realized that she needed to pee, got her stool, got on the potty and peed. Like she has been doing it for years. She has decided no diapers except for sleep time (which we all know she doesn't do often so this should really save on diapers!).

Next step...conquering the potty on the go scenario!

Ah...Mexico!

Molly has a passport. This fact just warms my heart! Remember I wouldn't marry Jonathan until he had one. Never know what or when an opportunity to travel might arise...even at nearly 3!
We had such a great time in Mexico. Molly was in heaven. Didn't want to leave and its all she has talked about since. Wants to know when we are going back...me too! Thanks to my folks we had beautiful and luxurious accomodations just outside Cabo San Lucas on the pacific side. Amazing waves and even better sunsets! We swam and played to our hearts content. My sister, Aimee, and her family joined us and we had a family filled (minus Amanda and Paul) week. I love when Molly gets to hang with her cousins. Sand castles were built, lots of pool splashing occurred, baths were shared, and tons of laughter. Pure joy.

Potty Training Progress

Not much progress unfortunately. Our new 'program' in place is no diapers at home. We've been doing this for a couple of weeks. At first there were many accidents. Molly really didn't seem to know or anticipate that she needed to 'go' but then we had a number of days in a row where it appeared that she was holding 'it.' Holding it until she was in a diaper. She would go hours without peeing to go within minutes of having a diaper on. Frequent trips to the potty, no luck. Lots of conversations. We've even given incentives. I felt optimistic that she was holding it (despite concerns for bladder health) because maybe it means that she is understanding her body better. But the last few days ... back to accidents. Saving on diapers but definitely increasing the water usage for laundry! She seems to understand the process but not taking the next step. Today, after an accident, I asked Molly why she didn't go potty on the potty. Her reply? "Because I am not potty trained mama." So there's the logic. Who can argue?

She will potty train, right? Not like she'll be headed to college in a diaper...right?
